The Perth Mint marks an important chapter in Australia’s history with a collection of commemorative coins inspired by the nation’s early gold discoveries. These coins reflect the impact of the gold rush era and highlight the people and tools that helped shape Australia’s development. Available now, the 2026 1 oz Proof Australian Silver 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush Coin with gilded details is offered at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2026 1 oz Proof Australian Silver 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush Coin is presented in a Perth Mint display case with a black base and clear acrylic lid. The packaging includes a themed shipper that reflects the gold rush era, along with a Certificate of Authenticity. This proof coin also includes 24-karat gold accents, which highlight the rim and the central shovel-and-pick-ax design on the reverse side.
In February 1851, Edward Hargraves, a prospector with experience from the California goldfields, announced the discovery of gold near Bathurst in New South Wales. He named the location Ophir and used panning techniques learned abroad to extract gold from local creek beds. After confirming the find, Hargraves reported it to colonial officials, helping spark Australia’s first major gold rush.
The obverse of the 2026 Proof Australian Silver 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush Coin features King Charles III. His Majesty is shown in left-profile relief without a crown. This effigy is the first-generation portrait of the King and was designed by Dan Thorne.
On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Proof Silver 175th Anniversary of Australia’s First Gold Rush Coin, you’ll find imagery tied to the gold mining era. The design includes wheelbarrows, tents, and gold pans, representing daily life during the rush. At the center is a 175th-anniversary emblem with a crossed shovel and pick ax, along with the outline of Australia and the number 175 within it.
