The Chinese dragon is a highly significant creature in Chinese history, culture, mythology, and the Zodiac. While there isn’t a specific set of characteristics tied to a Lilac, or purple, dragon, certain colors do have connections to dragons in general. Right now, 2024 1/2 oz Colorized Australian Silver Lunar Lilac Dragon Coins are available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2024 1/2 oz Colorized Australian Silver Lunar Lilac Dragon Coin is available here in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes with an acrylic capsule for delivery. The Lilac Dragon is one of eight colorized Chinese dragon designs available from the Perth Mint on 1/2 oz silver coins.
Historically, deep purple was a color reserved for high-ranking officials and sometimes the imperial family, alongside yellow and gold. The rarity of purple dye made it precious. In the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE), only the highest-ranking officials could wear purple. This imperial connection, while not specific to dragons, underscores purple’s prestigious status in Chinese culture.
The obverse of the 2024 Colorized Australian Silver Lunar Lilac Dragon features a depiction of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is shown here at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. This 2015 design from Jody Clark is the sixth and final bust of the Queen to feature on Australian coins.
On the reverse side of the 2024 1/2 oz Colorized Silver Lunar Lilac Dragon Coins is a depiction of a Chinese dragon. The idea of purple dragons is more likely to be found in Western-inspired or fusion fantasy that draws on Chinese elements. This could be seen as a creative blend of Western color symbolism (where purple often represents magic or royalty) with Chinese dragon lore, resulting in new, hybrid mythological creatures.
