First released in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar became the final silver dollar to see broad, everyday use in the United States. The obverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Silver Dollar features George T. Morgan’s left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap topped by a coronet, with a laurel wreath resting above the band.

The reverse of the 2023-S Proof Morgan Silver Dollar shows Morgan’s heraldic eagle. Created alongside the obverse in 1878, the eagle faces forward while holding arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.
