On the reverse, John Mercanti’s modernization of the heraldic eagle takes center stage. The eagle is prominently featured with the national shield on its chest and 13 five-point stars above its head. Identifying marks surround this powerful image.

Since 2001, the West Point Mint has been striking BU and proof coins in this program. However, the San Francisco Mint resumed coining Silver Eagles in 2011. The 2019 proof of this coin remains one of the lowest-minted coins in the series’ history.
