The Mexican Silver Libertad series from the Casa de Moneda de México is one of the most recognizable silver bullion programs in the Western Hemisphere. Produced with .999 fine silver, Libertad coins are widely known for their reliable quality, government-backed minting, and strong demand in the global bullion market. These qualities make them appealing to both new collectors and experienced investors. Right now, 2012 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The Silver Libertad collection draws inspiration from Mexico’s long history of coinage. In particular, the design pays tribute to the famous Peso coins from the early 1900s that displayed the Winged Victory figure. This image has become a lasting symbol of Mexico’s independence and national identity. By incorporating historic elements into a modern bullion coin, the series was created to represent Mexico’s heritage while standing alongside other well-known silver coins such as the American Silver Eagle and Canadian Maple Leaf.
All 2012 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins available here are packaged in protective plastic flips. Although the Silver Libertad series first launched in 1982, the larger 2 oz coins were not introduced until 1996. The 2 oz option was the first of the larger Libertad coins released and was later joined by the 5 oz silver and 1 kilo silver versions.
On the obverse of 2012 Mexican Silver Libertads is the national coat of arms of Mexico. At the center of the design is the well-known image of an eagle perched on a cactus while holding a serpent in its beak. This symbol comes from an ancient Aztec legend connected to the founding of Tenochtitlan. Around the main image, you will notice ten earlier versions of Mexico’s coat of arms arranged in a circular pattern, showing how the national emblem has changed throughout the country’s history.
The reverse of 2012 2 oz Silver Libertad Coins displays the famous Winged Victory statue, also called the Angel of Independence. This monument stands on a tall column along Mexico City’s Paseo de la Reforma and honors the nation’s independence. In the coin design, Victory appears with wings spread and robes flowing, suggesting motion and freedom. Behind the figure are the well-known volcanic peaks of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.
