Coin Highlights:
The Lunar Series I program started in 1996, initially offering only gold coins. Silver coins were introduced in the series until 1999. Lunar Series I gold coins aligned with the Zodiac from 1996 to 2007, while Lunar Series I silver coins were issued out of line with the Zodiac from 1999 to 2010.
In 2008, the Lunar Series II program debuted with fresh designs, featuring both gold and silver coins together from the start. The 2011 Year of the Rabbit design is a testament to this harmonious approach.
The obverse of the 2011 2 oz Silver Lunar Rabbit features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief, adorned with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
On the reverse, Perth Mint beautifully depicts two rabbits, symbolizing good luck, peace, and longevity in Chinese culture. An adult rabbit is accompanied by its young bunny, representing good fortune.
These 2011 2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit Coins are securely housed in protective capsules. In response to increased silver demand in 2011, the mintage of the 2 oz Silver Rabbit surged from 63,005 coins in 2010 to 99,494 in 2011—a nearly 50% increase from the prior year and five times the mintage from 2009.
