Product Details

First released in 1982, the Engelhard Prospector Silver Round is one of the most popular series with deep American roots and high demand. The 1987 edition of this 1 oz silver round is notable for being the sixth release in the iconic Prospector series and the final year featuring the eagle design. BullionMax is proud to offer you the 1987 1 oz Engelhard Prospector Silver Round!

Round Highlights:

  • Delivered to you in a protective plastic flip!
  • Issued in 1987 by Engelhard!
  • Limited mintage of 75,000 rounds!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Obverse depicts a prospector panning for gold.
  • Reverse displays the reverse image of an American Bald Eagle.

In the late 1970s, as the price of silver neared $50 an ounce, leading silver refineries like Handy & Harman, Johnson-Matthey, and Engelhard began producing various silver bullion products. In 1982, Engelhard was the pioneer in introducing 1-oz silver bullion rounds, featuring an image of a prospector panning for gold. Interestingly, silver is not typically found in alluvial deposits like gold. Despite this, Engelhard’s silver Prospectors quickly became dominant in the 1-oz silver round market, even outpacing the renowned Johnson-Matthey Freedom Rounds.

On the obverse of the 1987 1 oz Engelhard Prospector Silver Round, you’ll find the classic image of a prospector. A prospector is a person who searches for mineral deposits. This design shows a man bent over a river, panning for gold. He wears a hat as he searches the calm waters. The inscriptions on this side include: ‘U.S.A 1987,’ and ‘The American Prospector,’ surrounded by a beaded outer circle.

The reverse of the 1987 1 oz Engelhard Prospector Silver Round features an American Eagle. This reversed design showcases the majestic bird gripping a branch. It soars with powerful wings and a sharp beak. The inscriptions here include: ‘Engelhard,’ and ‘One Troy Ounce 999+Fine Silver,’ encircled by a beaded rim similar to the obverse.
