1898 was a dynamic period in American history, marked by the Alaska Gold Rush, the annexation of the Republic of Hawaii, and the Spanish-American War. Amidst these events, the Morgan Silver Dollar continued to circulate in the American economy, with Philadelphia being the leading mint in production.

On the obverse of the 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar, the effigy of Lady Liberty by George T. Morgan captures her in left-profile relief, adorned with a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath. The reverse features Morgan’s design of the heraldic eagle, symbolizing both war and peace with its arrows and olive branch.

The United States engaged in the Spanish-American War, which was sparked by the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor. The war lasted from April to August 1898 and resulted in the U.S. defeating Spain. The Treaty of Paris was signed in December 1898, officially ending the war and leading to the acquisition of territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines by the United States.

These 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are presented in Mint State 64 condition, showcasing average mint luster for the age and strike, with minimal contact marks and a few heavier ones. Discover a piece of the past with BullionMax.
