These 20-coin tubes are what the U.S. Mint uses for storing and transporting smaller quantities of gold and silver American eagle bullion coins in smaller quantities. (Buy a monster box of silver eagles and you’ll get 25 of these tubes.) Our tubes of silver eagles are straight from U.S. Mint, each half full of 10 1 oz American eagle silver bullion coins from a random mintage year, 1986-2021, with the classic Type 1 reverse design. Bullion-grade silver American eagles are minted exclusively at the West Point facility and do not have a mintmark.
Since 1986, the obverse of the American silver eagle displays Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic “Walking Liberty,” adopted from the fifty-cent coin which circulated from 1916-1947. We see Lady Liberty on center stage, walking forward as if to greet a guest, one arm bearing a bouquet of olive branches, the other extended in friendship. Liberty wears a billowing dress and her shoulders are draped in the American flag. The sun rises in the background, symbolizing a dawn of peace and prosperity. “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” frame the scene, with the mintage year just below Lady Liberty’s feet.
I’m always amazed by the dynamic feel of this design. Weinman has captured so much motion – the wind-whipped flag, the skirt kicked into motion by Liberty’s vigorous strides, her rear foot flexed and ready to sprint into the next step. Many coin designs are static and there’s nothing wrong with that! Compared with the American buffalo design, though, the silver eagle is absolutely bursting with life.
The obverse displays a heraldic eagle behind a shield, as designed by John Mercanti in 1986 specifically for the silver eagle coin. The eagle’s wings are spread and it holds in its beak a banner that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Additional inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.” Thirteen five-pointed stars above the eagle’s head represent the original 13 colonies at the founding of the United States of America in 1776.
Silver American eagle coins are globally-recognized, highly-liquid and just about always in demand. Silver eagles have a special place in the hearts of sound money enthusiasts right here in the U.S. (and they’re often less expensive than junk silver coins). A half tube of 10 silver American eagles gives you the best of both worlds – great pricing, and plenty of space for your next ten coins!
