The Pre-1933 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle is now available and ready ship in XF (Extremely Fine) condition. First issued in 1850, the Liberty Gold Double Eagle would not only be the first coin of its denomination ever released, but it would also be the most valuable piece currency for its era. The coin contains .9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 90%, making it a suitable option for precious metals IRAs and investment portfolios. Beyond its gold content, the $20 Liberty Double Eagle has earned a respected place in the world of numismatics as one of the last gold coins minted before the United States moved away from circulating gold currency.
Coin Highlights:
The $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle was created by John B. Longacre. Its obverse showcases his design known as the Crowned Liberty, also called the “Liberty Head Double Eagle” or the “Coronet Double Eagle.” Lady Liberty is shown in profile wearing a coronet inscribed with the word “Liberty.” She’s surrounded by 13 stars symbolizing the original American colonies. Longacre’s design drew inspiration from classic Greco-Roman imagery.
On the reverse, the coin features the Great Seal of the United States. This design includes a bald eagle with spread wings, a shield at its chest, an olive branch in one talon, and arrows in the other. Over the years, three reverse styles were used: the original; Type II, which includes the motto “In God We Trust;” and Type III, which spells out the word “Dollar.” Because we ship based on available inventory, BullionMax is unable to guarantee which type you’ll receive.
