Celebrate 40 years of the American Gold Eagle Series in 2026 with the latest release from the United States Mint. First issued in 1986, the American Gold Eagle remains a widely recognized gold bullion coin. It features classic designs inspired by early American coinage and continues to represent the quality and craftsmanship of U.S. minting. Of the four sizes available in the Gold Eagle lineup, the 1 oz coin regularly leads in annual mintage. Although the 1/10 oz version holds the top spot for highest single-year total, the 1 oz coin accounts for the next four top mintages and has led more years overall than any other option.
Each 2026 1 oz American Gold Eagle Tube comes with 20 individual 2026-dated coins. All coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and packaged together in a durable acrylic tube. The total gold content across all 20 coins is 20 Troy ounces. These coins are struck in 22-karat gold using a metal mix of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
The obverse design on 2026 American Gold Eagles uses Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous 1907 depiction of Liberty. Originally seen on the $20 Double Eagle, this design shows Liberty walking forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Eagle Coin, you’ll find a modern close-up of a bald eagle’s head in profile. This image was created by Jennie Norris in 2020 and first used in the Gold Eagle series starting in 2021. The eagle’s focused expression adds a fresh look to this long-running coin series.
