Each of these 2025 1/10 oz Australian Gold Kookaburra Coins is packaged in a clear plastic capsule for protection. This release marks the 35th year of the series, continuing its tradition of showcasing a fresh kookaburra design with every new issue.
Native to eastern Australia, kookaburras are known for their loud, laughter-like calls. They are the largest members of the kingfisher family and have adapted well to life near humans. Originally found in forested areas, kookaburras learned to thrive in more open landscapes after European settlers cleared land, making it easier for them to spot and capture prey.
The obverse of the 2025 Gold Kookaburra Coin shows King Charles III in a left-profile portrait. This design, introduced in 2024 by artist Dan Thorne, is part of the first generation of official images of the king. He is shown without a crown in this depiction.
On the reverse of the coin, you’ll find this year’s special anniversary artwork. The image features a kookaburra perched on a branch with its wings tucked in as it turns its head back over its shoulder. The rising sun in the background adds depth to this commemorative design.
