Tigers used to roam widely across the Korean Peninsula, including both North and South Korea, and nearby areas in northeastern China and the Russian Far East. Starting in 2018, KOMSCO has celebrated the tiger with an annual series. The 2024 release is the final design in this series. Right now, the 2024 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Medals are available at BullionMax.
Medal Highlights:
Each 2024 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Medal is offered in individual packaging. The Gold Tiger Medal is presented in a box by the mint and is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This release is the final issue in the South Korean Tiger Series, making it a special collectible!
Tigers in Korea lived in various habitats such as temperate forests, mixed woodlands, and mountainous areas. This year’s design features the tiger on Jeju Island in Hallasan National Park. The park is home to Hallasan, a shield volcano that is Korea’s highest peak at over 6,300 feet.
The obverse of the 2024 South Korean Gold Tiger shows the mighty tiger. The design captures the tiger in a left-profile relief, leaping from the foliage in a hunt. The background includes a lake formed in the crater of the shield volcano.
The reverse of the 2024 1 oz Gold Tiger Medal features the Korean peninsula. Instead of a geopolitical view, the design outlines the peninsula with the Korean alphabet letters filling in the shape. This design has been a hallmark of the series since its start in 2018.
