Product Details

Introduced in 1987, the British Gold Britannia coins long showcased Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. After the passing of Her Late Majesty in September 2022, The Royal Mint transitioned to featuring a new monarch. Before this change in 2023, they released a final batch of Britannias with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Now, you can get the 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia Coins in perfect condition from BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes in an NGC plastic slab!
  • Final batch of coins with Elizabeth II on the obverse!
  • Identified as the final 500 Britannias with Her Majesty’s portrait!
  • Limited number of certified perfect coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The face value of 100 Pound sterling (GBP) is fully backed by the British government.

  • On the obverse is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features a depiction of Britannia.

In 2023, The Royal Mint started the shift in the Britannia Series from effigies of Queen Elizabeth II to the first portraits of King Charles III. This marked a significant change as it was the first time another monarch appeared on these coins.

All 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia Coins available here are in perfect Mint State 70 condition. Coins with this grade have their full, original mint luster and no imperfections. As part of the last 500 struck, these are the final coins from The Royal Mint with Elizabeth II on the obverse.

The obverse of these 2023 British Gold Britannias features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2015 by Jody Clark, this is the fifth and final effigy of Elizabeth II to appear on British coins. Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch of England, was crowned on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey. Her coronation was the first to be televised, with over 27 million viewers in the UK.

The reverse side of the 2023 1 oz Gold Britannia Coins showcases Britannia. Designed by Philip Nathan in 1987, this image captures Britannia in full length, standing along the British coastline. She holds a trident in her right hand, an olive branch in her left, wears a Corinthian helmet, and has a Union Jack shield at her side.
