Product Details

The British Gold Britannia Series was first introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987. For many years, Queen Elizabeth II was featured on the obverse of these coins. After her passing in September 2022, The Royal Mint began transitioning to King Charles III on the obverse. In 2023, this change took place, but not before the mint produced the final batches of Britannias with Queen Elizabeth II’s image. Right now, 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available in near-perfect condition at BullionMax.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in an NGC plastic slab!
  • Final Britannia coins with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse!
  • Last 500 struck with Her Majesty’s effigy!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of 100 Pound sterling (GBP) backed by the government of Britain.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is Britannia.

Each 2023 1 oz British Gold Britannia Coin here comes in Mint State 69 condition. These coins show full, original mint luster with only up to two minor imperfections. These small flaws are not in the main visual areas and are limited to tiny contact marks or hairlines.

Notably, the NGC has confirmed that these coins are among the last 500 in the 2023 Gold Britannia Series to feature Queen Elizabeth II’s image on the obverse. Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning British monarch, serving from February 6, 1952, until her passing on September 8, 2022.

The obverse of the 2023 British Gold Britannia shows a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This final image of Elizabeth II shows her at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. It was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark and first appeared on Royal Mint coins in 2016.

On the reverse of the 2023 1 oz Gold Britannia Coins, there is an image of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. The name Britannia comes from the Ancient Roman term for the British Isles. Britannia is depicted as a symbol of Britain’s control over the seas and its ability to protect its homeland.
