As always, the 2022 American eagle 1 oz gold coin is minted in 22-karat or 0.9167 pure gold. This alloy, very similar to the one used to mint South Africa’s famous Krugerrand, is much more durable and rugged than pure gold. Each 1 oz American eagle actually weighs more than one troy oz (1.0909 troy oz to be exact) because the “1 oz” designation indicates the amount of gold in each coin.
