Product Details

The 1/10 oz American gold eagle offers the perfect opportunity to get started with gold investing or gold coin collecting without breaking the bank! These fractional coins have been hot sellers year after year, probably because they're priced right for those just starting out in their coin collecting. These 1/10 oz American gold eagles make fantastic (and affordable) gifts, too.

The 1/10-oz American Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty on the obverse side, fully remastered from the artist's original 1907 design. A careful observation will note greater detail than in the earlier mintings from this series.

The reverse showcases artist Jennie Norris's astonishingly lifelike profile of an American bald eagle. Every detail is rendered with incredible precision, right down the the varying textures of the feathers on the eagle's head and neck. The noble raptor glares out of the coin, seeming to dare the viewer to meet its gaze. It's a stirring and inspiring tribute to America, reminding us that the bald eagle isn't just a symbol. No, it's a hunter, a deadly predator that survives day-to-day on its courage and wits. (This may sound like we're gushing, but really, it's an astonishing image. We dare yout to take a close look without feeling awe!)

Each coin is 22-karat pure gold with a nominal face value of $5. The 1/10-oz American gold eagle, like all the coins of this series, consists of a durable alloy made of 91.7% gold, 3% silver, and 5.3% copper. The alloy, called crown gold, is more resistant to wear than 23-kt or 24-kt gold. Though crown gold was originally chosen because it held up very well to daily use for circulating coinage, it makes the gold eagle well-suited to long-term storage and much more resistant to a little rough handling than pure gold coins.

Note that fractional-weigth coins usually have a higher premium over spot price than 1 oz gold coins. Keep in mind, this reflects the cost of manufacture ( it takes about the same amount of effort for the U.S. Mint to make a 1 oz or a 1/10 oz coin). Even so, the 1/10 oz American gold eagle coin is by far the most affordable in the gold eagle series, a favorite of collectors and investors, a virtually guaranteed sell-out year after year. About the American gold eagle program

The U.S. government guarantees the weight and purity of all American eagle coins, and purity (0.9167 fine gold) is the same for all weights. Investors may add American gold eagles in select IRAs, making them a valuable addition to any retirement plan.

The U.S. Mint at West Point has minted these coins for most of its 36-year history. In 2021, the mint refreshed the Augustus Saint-Gaudens obverse design and launched the completely new Jennie Norris reverse design. 2022 is the first year all American gold eagles will feature this new art.
