Product Details

The Chinese Mint first launched the Gold Panda Series in 1982. Originally, these coins were issued using Troy ounce weights such as 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. By 1983, a smaller 1/20 oz option was added. A key feature of this popular series is the changing obverse design, which features a new Giant Panda image nearly every year. Today, BullionMax offers the 2001 1/4 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin for purchase online.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in a sealed plastic pouch!
  • 20th release of Gold Panda Coins!
  • 1st issue with increased face values!
  • Final mintage of 85,010 coins!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of 100 Yuan by China.
  • The obverse features a Giant Panda walking amidst bamboo.
  • On the reverse is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.

The obverse of the 2001 1/4 oz Chinese Gold Panda shows a Giant Panda walking through a bamboo forest. These pandas have a highly routine lifestyle focused on eating. Each day, they spend around 12 to 16 hours chewing on bamboo, consuming between 26 and 84 pounds of it as their main source of food.

On the reverse, you’ll find an image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This historic building is part of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The design has remained a constant in the series since 1982. It depicts the hall viewed from the front staircase, looking up at the main entry doors.

Outside of their feeding time, pandas usually rest for a few hours, often reclining against rocks or trees in a laid-back position. They also spend brief periods playing, grooming, or exploring their surroundings. Pandas are most active at dawn and dusk, searching the forest for fresh bamboo shoots. While they appear bulky, pandas can skillfully climb trees—either to find food or avoid danger.

Each 2001 1/4 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is packaged in a sealed plastic pouch. The 2001 issue marked the first time the face value of the 1/4 oz coin was raised from 25 Yuan to 100 Yuan, reflecting a new approach by the Chinese Mint.
