Proof American Gold Eagles have been produced by the United States Mint since 1986, the same year the Gold Eagle series began. At first, only a 1 oz coin was offered, but by 1988, the lineup expanded to include three smaller sizes. Since then, the series has had consistent yearly releases, with the only exception in 2009. Right now, you can find the 1993-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1993-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle is shipped in a protective capsule and includes a display box from the U.S. Mint. This inner box is placed inside a themed outer shipper and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Proof Gold Eagles have a frosted design with mirror-like backgrounds. These coins are made from 22-karat gold, consisting of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
The 1993 release was notable for a few reasons. It marked the lowest mintage for the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle up to that point, with just 34,369 coins struck. It was also the final year that the U.S. Mint used different locations to strike the 1 oz and fractional-size Proof Gold Eagles. Since the beginning, the 1 oz coins were made at West Point, while the smaller sizes were produced in Philadelphia from 1987 through 1993. Starting in 1994, all sizes were minted at West Point.
On the obverse of the 1993-W Proof American Gold Eagle, you’ll find a classic image of Lady Liberty. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this design shows Liberty in full figure, walking forward with sun rays behind her. The Capitol building is shown at her feet, and she holds a torch and an olive branch.
The reverse of the 1993-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle shows a family of bald eagles. This image, created by Miley Busiek, includes a male eagle flying above the nest while the female watches over the hatchling.
