The coin’s iconic design is credited to two talented sculptors and engravers: Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the obverse and Miley Busiek for the reverse.
On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is portrayed as a strong and confident figure, holding a torch and an olive branch. Walking away from the Capitol, she is illuminated by sun rays, with inscriptions of “LIBERTY” and the mintage year.
The reverse side features a majestic male eagle in flight, overlooking its family, including a female eagle and hatchlings. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” along with the coin’s denomination and weight.
