American Gold Eagle coins are an annual offering from the United States Mint, available in bullion, proof, and burnished versions. With four weight options, including the 1 oz American Gold Eagle, and fractional-weight coins like the 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, there’s a coin for every collector.

The 1987 1 oz American Gold Eagle coin signifies the second release of the official gold bullion coin. While mintage saw a decrease from the inaugural year, it’s common for demand to taper off after the initial release. Today, the 1 oz American Gold Eagle remains a cherished choice among the collection’s four weights.

All 1987 1 oz American Gold Eagle coins on BullionMax.com are in BU condition, showing no signs of wear and tear. Though you may notice minor imperfections such as breaks in luster or spotted surfaces, these coins are free from significant flaws.

On the obverse, you’ll find Liberty’s image, crafted in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt, this design adorned the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933.

Turning to the reverse, the 1987 1 oz American Gold Eagle features a unique design by Miley Busiek, showcasing a family of American bald eagles. This special image, created for the American Gold Eagle series, depicts a nest filled with hatchlings, guarded by a female eagle while a male soars overhead.
