The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is a well-known gold bullion coin admired around the world. First introduced in 1979, it was the first major competitor to the South African Gold Krugerrand. At first, the Royal Canadian Mint only offered the Maple Leaf in a 1 oz gold option, but in 1982, they added new fractional sizes, including the 1/4 oz version. Right now, you can find 1982 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins available online from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1982 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin showcases a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This was the first image of the Queen to appear on the Maple Leaf series and was originally created by artist Arnold Machin in 1965. It shows a 39-year-old Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
On the reverse side of the 1982 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, you will see the famous sugar maple leaf. Designed by Walter Ott in 1979, this natural-looking sugar maple leaf became the signature design for the entire Maple Leaf collection, including coins made of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
Beyond its beauty, the sugar maple leaf plays an important role for the tree itself. Its large surface area helps the tree absorb sunlight for photosynthesis, while the leaf’s lobed shape allows heat to escape and makes the tree more resistant to strong winds. The petiole (leaf stem) has special cells that allow the leaf to break away cleanly in the fall, helping the tree prepare for winter.
Each 1982 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin available through BullionMax comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is packaged inside a protective plastic flip. These coins mark a big milestone for the Maple Leaf Series, as 1982 was the year the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the lineup and introduced higher purity gold at .9999 fineness.
