Product Details

Canada struck its first official gold coins in 1912 at the Ottawa Mint, which was then a branch of the Royal Mint in Britain. These early coins were issued in $5 and $10 denominations and displayed a portrait of King George V, reflecting Canada’s ties to the British Empire. Right now, you can buy 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins online from BullionMax.

The obverse of the 1913 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin features King George V. He is shown in left-profile relief wearing a crown and royal attire. The inscriptions on this side of the coin are written in Latin, a traditional element in British and Commonwealth coinage of the time.

On the reverse of 1913 $10 Canadian Reserve Coins, you’ll find the Canadian coat of arms. This version is based on the 1868 design created after Canadian Confederation. It includes a shield showing symbols for several Canadian provinces, along with emblems representing the broader United Kingdom.

Production of these coins was brief, ending in 1914 due to the start of World War I. Fewer than 850,000 coins were made before minting stopped. The coins offered here come from a group of 300,000 that remained untouched for decades in the Bank of Canada’s vaults. This hoard includes both $5 and $10 coins from 1912, 1913, and 1914.

Each 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin offered here has a Mint State 63 grade and comes in a plastic slab. Expect coins with slightly faded luster, multiple small contact marks, and occasional heavier marks. Some faint hairlines might be visible to the naked eye. Coins may come with either a PCGS or NGC label, but we can’t guarantee which one you’ll receive.
