The $10 Liberty Head Eagle Coin from the US Mint holds a special place in American coin history. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint, this coin was introduced in 1838 and used for three different denominations: $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles. Of these, the $10 Liberty Eagle had the longest production run, minted from 1838 to 1907. Today, you can find the 1901 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
In 1901, the Philadelphia Mint ramped up its production of the $10 Liberty Eagle, minting nearly five times as many coins as the previous year. That year, Philadelphia alone produced 1.7 million coins. Combined with the smaller mintages from San Francisco and New Orleans, the total production for 1901 reached over 2.8 million coins.
The 1901 $10 Liberty Gold Eagles available here come in Mint State 64 condition, which means they have good mint luster with some light contact marks and minor hairlines. The marks may be present in key focal areas, and the hairlines can be scattered or appear in small patches.
On the obverse of the 1901 Liberty Gold Eagle is Christian Gobrecht’s portrait of Lady Liberty, shown in a left-facing profile with a crown on her head. Surrounding Liberty are 13 stars representing the original colonies, and the year of issue is placed at the bottom.
The reverse of the 1901 $10 Liberty Eagle features the iconic heraldic eagle, a powerful symbol of American strength. The eagle holds arrows and an olive branch, with the national shield at its chest. As a Type II coin, a banner with the national motto is also displayed above the eagle.
