The obverse of the 1891-S Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagle shows Lady Liberty facing left. This design, created by James B. Longacre, features her wearing a coronet inscribed with “Liberty.” Surrounding her are 13 stars, representing the original colonies.

On the reverse of the 1891-S $20 Liberty Double Eagle, you’ll find the Great Seal of the United States. Also designed by Longacre, the image displays an eagle with a shield on its chest, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other.
