The Egyptian scarab beetle, scientifically known as Scarabaeus sacer, was one of ancient Egypt’s most revered symbols. This dung beetle was linked to the sun god Ra, as its habit of rolling balls of dung mirrored Ra’s movement of the sun across the sky. Right now, 1/200 oz Monarch Egyptian Scarab Gold Rounds are available at BullionMax.
Round Highlights:
Ancient Egyptians noticed how the beetle would bury its dung ball in the sand, with young beetles later emerging from it. This connection to themes of rebirth and regeneration made the scarab a significant symbol of protection and renewal. Scarab amulets were popular throughout Egyptian history, often crafted from precious materials like gold or semi-precious stones. These amulets were engraved with hieroglyphs on their flat undersides and were worn as protective talismans by both the living and the dead.
Each 1/200 oz Monarch Egyptian Scarab Gold Round is presented in an individual acrylic capsule. These rounds are struck from 24-karat gold and showcase intricate designs on both sides. The artwork faithfully reproduces the hieroglyphs and symbols that defined ancient Egyptian culture.
The obverse side of Monarch Egyptian Scarab Gold Rounds features a winged scarab beetle holding the Eye of Ra. This iconic symbol, often shown as a sun disk encircled by a cobra, represented the sun god Ra’s power and protection. It was believed to ward off evil and illness while symbolizing the life-giving energy of the sun.
On the reverse, the design showcases the Egyptian Ankh alongside the hieroglyph for gold. The Ankh, shaped like a cross with a loop at the top, symbolized eternal life and the harmony of male and female divine energies. Known as the “key of life,” this emblem was prominent in temple carvings, royal ornaments, and everyday jewelry.
