The Czech Mint introduced its first bullion coin collection in 2017 with the release of the Silver Czech Lion. Since then, the series has built a following for its national symbolism and limited production totals. Produced by the Czech Mint and issued as legal tender in Niue, each release features a fresh take on the Czech lion, a long-standing emblem of the nation. Right now, 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Silver Coins are available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Silver Coin in this listing is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins are packaged in protective flips, while multiples of 25 coins are shipped in plastic rolls. This marks the 10th release in the Czech Lion bullion series from the Czech Mint.
The history of the Czech lion goes back to the 1100s, when Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa granted a new coat of arms to King Vladislaus II. The original design featured a silver lion on a red background to represent courage and strength, and it was initially shown with a single tail. Tradition holds that a second tail was later added as a reward for King Přemysl Otakar I’s support in battles against the Saxons. By the mid-13th century, the two-tailed lion had become the official symbol of the Kingdom of Bohemia and continues to represent Czech heritage today.
The obverse of the 2026 Niue Czech Lion Silver Coin displays a portrait of King Charles III. As Niue is part of the Commonwealth, its coinage features the reigning British monarch. This left-facing image of Charles III was designed by Jody Clark, who is also known for creating the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on British coins.
On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Czech Lion Silver Coin, you will find a detailed image of the Czech lion with its distinctive forked tail, wearing the Crown of St. Wenceslas. This historic crown was made in 1346 for Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. It was dedicated to St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech lands, and has been used in the coronation of Bohemian rulers.
