Collectors celebrated a meaningful milestone in 2021 with the revival of two classic silver dollar designs from the United States Mint. Honoring both the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar release and the original debut of the Peace Dollar, the Mint brought these historic coins back as modern collectibles. Starting in 2023, these silver dollars have continued as annual Proof issues for collectors to enjoy. Today, Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available for purchase online from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins showcases a left-facing image of Lady Liberty created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty is shown wearing a crown with radiant spikes that stretch outward, symbolizing hope, freedom, and progress. De Francisci used his wife, Teresa, as the model for this portrait, giving Liberty a softer and more youthful appearance compared to earlier silver dollar designs. The result is a look that reflects optimism and a forward-looking spirit.
On the reverse, the Proof Peace Dollar features an American bald eagle resting calmly on a rock while holding an olive branch. This peaceful scene was chosen to represent the nation’s desire for peace after the end of World War I. Unlike earlier silver dollar designs that showed the eagle in flight or with a more aggressive stance, this version emphasizes calm and stability, reinforcing the message behind the Peace Dollar’s creation.
The original Peace Dollar series saw a short return to circulation in 1934 and 1935. These coins were struck as part of government efforts during the Great Depression to use newly acquired silver from mining support programs. Production during these final years took place at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. The 1935 issue marked the end of regular Peace Dollar production, closing the series quietly. A later attempt to revive the coin in 1964 was halted, and all pieces were melted before entering circulation.
Each Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coin in this listing comes packaged in an official presentation box from the US Mint and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Coins are selected from available dates beginning in 2023, and specific years cannot be requested. All orders are fulfilled with random date selection once payment has been completed.
