The return of two well-known silver dollar designs in 2021 was an exciting moment for many collectors. To honor the 100th anniversary of the final Morgan Dollar strike and the first release of the Peace Dollar, the United States Mint brought both historic designs back into production. Beginning in 2023, these silver dollars have been issued annually as modern collectible coins. Today, Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
During the original Peace Dollar series, no coins were produced between 1929 and 1933. This pause was largely due to the economic impact of the Great Depression, which sharply reduced the demand for silver coinage. With fewer transactions requiring silver dollars and existing reserves already available, the US Treasury shifted its focus toward managing the broader financial crisis. This stretch marked the longest production break in the history of the Peace Dollar.
Each Peace Silver Dollar available through this listing arrives inside a presentation box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the US Mint. Coins are selected from available years at random, and a specific year cannot be requested. Once your order has been completed, the coin is chosen and shipped without the option for year selection.
The obverse of the Peace Silver Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci and features a left-facing image of Lady Liberty. She wears a crown with radiant rays that represent hope and enlightenment. De Francisci modeled Liberty after his wife, Teresa, giving the design a softer and more modern appearance compared to earlier depictions used on US coinage.
On the reverse, the Peace Dollar displays a bald eagle resting peacefully while holding an olive branch. This design was chosen to represent peace following World War I. Unlike earlier silver dollars that showed the eagle in a more aggressive stance, this calm image reflects the nation’s desire for stability and unity during the postwar period.
