The United States Mint brought back two well-known silver dollar designs in 2021, reintroducing the Morgan Dollar and Peace Dollar to modern collectors. These classic designs have continued to attract steady interest, offering a familiar look that stands apart from the Mint’s regular bullion releases. Their return highlights the lasting appeal of historic American coin designs and gives today’s buyers another way to own a piece of numismatic tradition. Right now, certified Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each Morgan Silver Dollar Coin in this listing has been graded Mint State 70, representing a flawless example under magnification. These coins show full mint luster with no visible marks or imperfections. All coins are selected at random for shipment, and specific years of issue or label styles cannot be requested. This adds an element of variety for collectors while maintaining the same top-tier certified quality.
The Morgan Dollar has an interesting history that includes a brief return to production in 1921. This revival was made possible by the Pittman Act of 1918, which called for the melting of older silver dollars and their replacement with newly struck coins. Morgan Dollars were produced that year at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints, making 1921 the final issue of the original series. Later that same year, the Morgan Dollar design was retired in favor of the new Peace Dollar, closing the chapter on a design that had appeared on and off since 1878.
The obverse of the Morgan Dollar was created by engraver George T. Morgan and features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap decorated with cotton and wheat, symbols tied to American agriculture and growth. The overall style reflects classical influences drawn from ancient art, giving the coin a timeless and recognizable appearance.
On the reverse, the coin displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch, representing both national strength and a desire for peace. Surrounding the eagle is a partial wreath made of cotton and wheat, echoing the agricultural imagery seen on the obverse. Together, these design elements create a balanced and enduring look that has made the Morgan Dollar one of the most recognizable coins in U.S. history.
