The Morgan Silver Dollar was created by George T. Morgan and debuted in 1878 after the Bland-Allison Act required the federal government to purchase large quantities of silver for coin production. The series continued through 1904 before returning for one final year in 1921. That same year, the Peace Dollar was introduced as a symbol of hope and renewal following World War I. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar was struck from 1921 through 1928 and later returned briefly in 1934 and 1935. These coins marked the final circulating silver dollars produced in the United States until decades later.

The obverse of the Morgan Dollar shows a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap decorated with cotton and wheat. Thirteen stars surround her image to represent the original colonies. The reverse of the Morgan Dollar depicts a heraldic eagle with wings spread wide. The eagle holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons and is framed by a wreath.

The obverse of the Peace Dollar features a right-facing Liberty with flowing hair and a radiant crown, offering a more modern interpretation of the design compared to earlier US coinage. The reverse of the Peace Dollar displays a bald eagle resting on a rocky perch with its wings folded. It holds an olive branch, with the inscription “PEACE” below and rays of sunlight rising behind the landscape.
