The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Silver Britannia displays a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. This uncrowned depiction is the first official portrait of His Majesty used on British coins. Sculptor Martin Jennings created the design, which was completed in 2022.

On the reverse, you’ll find the image of Britannia, a national symbol of strength and unity. Artist Philip Nathan designed this classic version in 1987, showing Britannia in flowing robes and a Corinthian helmet. She holds a trident in one hand while resting an olive branch on a shield featuring the Union Jack.

Britannia has appeared on British coins for centuries, with her first appearance dating back to the copper farthing of 1672 under King Charles II. That early design, created by John Roettiers, showed Britannia seated by the sea, holding a spear and shield. Some believe the model for this figure was the Duchess of Richmond.
