The Horse is the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, a cycle that repeats every twelve years. In one version of the legend, the order was decided during a race across a river. Despite its speed, the Horse placed seventh after being startled by the Snake, which had hidden in its hoof and leapt out near the finish line.
