Chinese dragons have deep roots in Chinese history, going back more than 7,000 years to the Neolithic period. Over time, these creatures evolved from early totem symbols into one of the most recognizable icons in Chinese culture. Unlike the dragons of Western stories, Chinese dragons were seen as kind and powerful beings that controlled water and brought rain to the land. In 2025, the Chinese Mint is releasing a new bullion series dedicated to this important symbol. Right now, you can order the 2025 1 oz Chinese Mint Silver Dragon Coins online at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Ancient representations of dragons from the Yangshao culture (5000-3000 BCE) showed long, snake-like creatures. Over the centuries, artists added new details like antlers, scales, and claws—features that became common during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. By the time of the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), dragons were a key symbol of imperial power. The five-clawed dragon, in particular, was used only by the emperor.
All 2025 1 oz Chinese Mint Silver Dragon Coins are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins are individually packaged in plastic flips or in protective tubes of 20. This marks the first official release in the Chinese Mint’s new Silver Dragon bullion collection and the second-ever silver bullion series from China.
The obverse of the 2025 Silver Dragon Coin shows a view of the Great Wall of China. While many think of the wall as a single structure, it actually began as separate walls built by different Chinese states. These early fortifications date back to the 7th century BCE. In 221 BCE, after uniting China, Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered the walls to be joined into one system for protection against invasions from the north.
On the reverse side of the coin, you’ll find an elaborate design of a Chinese dragon. These dragons are found in many areas of Chinese culture, from temples and scrolls to festivals and imperial robes. They stand for strength, good luck, wisdom, and the energy known as yang in Taoist beliefs.
