The obverse of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coin features Adolph A. Weinman’s historic Walking Liberty design. Liberty is shown walking toward the sun as it rises over the horizon, wrapped in the American flag and carrying branches of oak and laurel. In 2021, Weinman’s original signature was restored to the design and can now be seen on the lower right portion of the obverse.

On the reverse of the 2021-W Proof American Silver Eagle is the new bald eagle image created by Emily Damstra. The design shows an eagle in flight with its wings spread wide as it carries an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions surrounding the eagle provide the coin’s weight, purity, denomination, and country of issue.

In 2021, the United States Mint released two different versions of the Silver Eagle. Early releases featured the original reverse by John Mercanti, now referred to as Type 1 coins. Later in the year, the Mint unveiled Damstra’s new reverse, making these coins the first-ever Type 2 Proof Silver Eagles and the only ones issued during the 35th anniversary year with the updated artwork.

These 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins are graded PF70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and include a special ALS label. ALS stands for American Liberty Series and highlights imagery connected to the coin’s design. A PF70 grade indicates a coin with full mint luster and no visible imperfections. Ultra-cameo proofs feature strong frosted details that contrast against deeply mirrored backgrounds.
