The year 2021 was an important one for the Proof American Silver Eagle. As the series celebrated its 35th anniversary, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse design from Emily Damstra. This marked the first major design update to a central feature in the history of the program. In 2021, the Proof Silver Eagle was released in both Type 1 and Type 2 versions, just like the BU coin. Type 1 coins were produced from the beginning of the year through early June and feature John Mercanti’s original heraldic eagle on the reverse. Beginning in July, the Mint issued Type 2 coins showcasing Emily Damstra’s new design of an American bald eagle in flight.

All 2021-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins available here are graded PF70. A PF70 grade indicates a coin with full, original mint luster and no visible imperfections. The UCAM designation, short for Ultra Cameo, identifies proofs with strong frosted details and deeply mirrored fields. The Advanced Release label means the coin was submitted for grading before it was officially released to the public.

On the obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Silver Eagle is Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design. Liberty is shown walking toward the rising sun, wrapped in the American flag. In 2021, the Mint added Weinman’s original signature to the lower right portion of the design.

The reverse of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle features Emily Damstra’s new eagle image. The bald eagle is shown in flight, holding an oak branch in its talons. Surrounding the eagle are the coin’s inscriptions, including its weight, purity, and country of issue.
