Product Details

Kookaburras are native birds from Australia and New Guinea known for their sturdy bodies, large heads, and strong, pointed beaks. These birds are part of the kingfisher family and are famous for their loud, echoing calls. Since 1990, the Perth Mint has featured the kookaburra on a long-running silver bullion series. Today, BullionMax offers the 2012 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic capsule!
  • 23rd issue of Silver Kookaburra Coins!
  • Final mintage of 51,596 coins!
  • Contains 1 Kilo (32.15 Troy oz) of .999 pure silver.
  • Bears a face value of $30 (AUD) backed by the federal government of Australia.
  • The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is a close-up of a kookaburra on a branch.

Each 2012 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is packaged individually inside a plastic capsule. The Perth Mint released three sizes for this issue: 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilo. Among them, the 1 oz coin had the highest mintage with 500,000 coins, followed by the 1 Kilo version, which totaled 51,596 coins.

One of the most well-known kookaburra species is the laughing kookaburra. These birds have a cream-colored body with brown wings, a dark stripe running across their eyes, and light blue hints on their wings. This coloring helps them stay hidden in their natural forest surroundings.

The obverse of the 2012 Kookaburra Coin features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on Australian coins. Created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998, this design shows the Queen in profile wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

On the reverse side, the design shows a detailed image of a kookaburra perched on a branch. These birds are known for their impressive beaks, which they use skillfully to catch prey like insects, reptiles, and even small snakes.
