The obverse of each 2006 1 oz Silver Eagle in this set features the timeless Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman. Originally used on the U.S. half dollar starting in 1916, this image remained on that coin through 1947 and is still admired as one of the most iconic in U.S. coinage.

On the reverse, the coins display John Mercanti’s modern take on the Heraldic Eagle, an emblem with roots in early U.S. coin designs from the late 18th century. Mercanti’s version served as the standard reverse for the Silver Eagle series until 2021.

This 2006 anniversary set includes three unique versions of the Silver Eagle. The set features the standard proof version from the West Point Mint, a one-time Reverse Proof from the Philadelphia Mint, and the first-ever Burnished Silver Eagle. The reverse proof uses a frosted background with mirrored design elements, the opposite of a typical proof finish. Meanwhile, the burnished coin introduces a soft, satin-like texture, created through a special minting method that emphasizes detail and care.
