In December 1921, the U.S. Mint began striking what would become the last 90% silver dollar coin made for everyday use in the country. Known as the Peace Silver Dollar, this coin was introduced to represent the peace achieved at the end of World War I. It took the place of the Morgan Dollar, which had been struck earlier that same year. The 1921 Peace Dollar stands out for its high-relief design, a rare feature shared by only a few circulation coins. Right now, you can find certified 1921 Peace Silver Dollar Coins at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Peace Dollar production didn’t begin until late in 1921, as the Mint needed time to develop a new design. While the Morgan Dollar was used earlier that year, it was eventually replaced with the Peace Dollar. This coin’s high-relief format required stronger pressure during striking, which often led to production problems such as broken dies and weaker design impressions. Because of this, many 1921 Peace Dollars have lighter details in their visuals.
Each 1921 Peace Silver Dollar Coin available here is in About Uncirculated 55 condition. These coins may show minimal wear on the highest design points, along with moderate to strong original luster. The Philadelphia Mint was the sole producer of these 1921 Peace Dollars.
On the obverse of the 1921 Peace Dollar is Lady Liberty shown in left-profile. Created by Anthony de Francisci, the design highlights Liberty with loose, flowing hair and a radiant crown atop her head.
The reverse of the 1921 Peace Silver Dollar shows a bald eagle perched on a rocky ledge. With its wings resting at its sides, the eagle clutches a sapling branch. Behind the bird, the sun’s rays rise from the horizon in a symbol of hope and peace.
