The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most recognized silver dollars in American coinage. First released in 1878 and designed by US Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan, the series marked the return of the silver dollar after a five-year pause at the Mint. Today, certified 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Silver dollar production in 1893 was shaped by major economic and political events. During the Panic of 1893, Congress repealed the Sherman Silver Purchase Act in November, reducing silver purchases and output. That year, Philadelphia produced about 378,000 coins, New Orleans struck around 300,000, and San Francisco issued roughly 100,000. Carson City’s 1893-CC would be the final Morgan Dollar from that historic Nevada branch, and it was also the largest branch-mint total at 677,000 coins.
All 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins offered here are certified MS62. At this level, you can expect muted or uneven mint luster with small, scattered marks in the fields. A few contact marks may appear in key focal areas, but overall eye appeal remains acceptable for the grade.
The obverse of the 1893 Morgan Dollar features George T. Morgan’s portrait of Liberty. She faces left, wearing a Phrygian cap for freedom, along with a laurel wreath and a coronet across her hair. Thirteen stars encircle the design, standing for the original colonies.
The reverse of the 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar shows Morgan’s heraldic eagle. This simplified national emblem depicts a bald eagle holding arrows of war and an olive branch of peace, notably without the US shield at the center.
