Morgan Silver Dollars struck at the Carson City Mint are strongly tied to Nevada’s silver boom and the famous Comstock Lode. Operating from 1870 to 1893, the Carson City facility was built to refine and strike coinage from the region’s rich silver deposits. Coins produced here carry the distinctive “CC” mint mark, making them instantly recognizable and highly sought after by collectors today. Right now, the 1890-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is available online from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
On the obverse of the 1890-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is George T. Morgan’s well-known depiction of Lady Liberty. Liberty appears in a left-facing profile wearing a Phrygian cap with a coronet crown, along with a laurel wreath woven into her hair. Around her portrait are 13 stars representing the original colonies, while the date is located at the bottom of the design.
The reverse of the 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Coin features another design created by George T. Morgan. It displays a heraldic bald eagle facing forward with its wings spread wide. The eagle clutches arrows in one talon as a symbol of strength and defense, while holding an olive branch in the other to represent peace.
The 1890-CC Morgan Silver Dollar stands out due to its mintage of 2,309,041 coins, produced during a time when the Carson City Mint was nearing the end of its operations. While that mintage total may seem fairly strong, collectors know the 1890-CC is much harder to locate in higher uncirculated grades than the numbers suggest. Unlike other Carson City issues that were stored in large quantities by the Treasury for decades, fewer 1890-CC dollars were kept in government vaults, leaving a higher percentage of surviving examples in circulated condition.
These 1890-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are graded VF30, which sits near the upper end of the Very Fine range (20-35). In this condition, the coin shows light wear across the surface, but most design elements remain clear, including many of the smaller details and the lettering in the legends.
