Product Details

The Morgan Silver Dollar Series made its debut in 1878, bringing silver dollar production back after a five-year break. Designed by George T. Morgan, this series introduced new images of Liberty and the American bald eagle. Morgan Dollars were produced each year from 1878 to 1904, with a final release in 1921 after World War I. Right now, certified 1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available for purchase online at BullionMax.

The obverse of the 1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. She wears a Phrygian cap symbolizing freedom, along with a laurel wreath and a crown inscribed with “Liberty.” Surrounding her portrait are 13 stars, representing the original colonies.

On the reverse of the 1884-O Morgan Dollar, the design showcases a heraldic bald eagle. The eagle is shown facing forward with wings spread wide. In its talons, it holds both arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing a balance between war and peace. A wreath wraps around the lower half of the design, while the national motto appears above.

George T. Morgan, the artist behind the Morgan Dollar, was originally from England. He came to the United States in 1876 at the request of U.S. Mint Director Henry Linderman to help modernize American coin designs. Before his move, Morgan trained at the Royal Mint in London under William Wyon, a renowned English medalist.

Each 1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar offered here is graded Mint State 65. These coins display strong mint luster for their age, with only a few minor contact marks. It’s also possible to see one or two small patches of hairlines or a couple of larger marks on some coins.
