SilverTowne is widely recognized for producing well-made silver rounds, many of which feature familiar designs inspired by classic US coinage. One of the most popular of these is the Incuse Indian design, first introduced in 1908 by Bela Lyon Pratt and later adapted for use on SilverTowne silver rounds. Today, 1/4 oz SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Rounds are available for purchase online at BullionMax.
Round Highlights:
The obverse of the 1/4 oz SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Round showcases a detailed recreation of Pratt’s famous artwork. At the center is a left-facing portrait of a Native American wearing a feathered headdress. The design is struck in an incuse format, meaning the image is pressed into the surface of the round rather than raised above it. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed along the upper rim, and a ring of thirteen stars surrounds the portrait to represent the original American colonies.
The reverse of the SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Round features a matching incuse-style design of a standing bald eagle. The eagle is shown with its wings resting at its sides, giving it a steady and composed appearance. It faces left while standing on a bundle of arrows paired with an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are featured on either side of the eagle, completing the design.
When Pratt’s incuse designs were first introduced, they received mixed opinions. Some critics believed the recessed surfaces might collect dirt more easily, while others simply disliked the unusual look compared to traditional raised coin designs. Even with early criticism, the design still found support during its original run, though it never reached the same level of popularity as the bold eagle designs created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for US gold coins of the same era.
These 1/4 oz SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Rounds are offered individually in protective plastic flips. Orders of multiple rounds may ship in sturdy tubes holding 30 rounds.
