From 2006 to 2008, the US Mint created special reverse designs for the Proof and Burnished Platinum Eagles. These designs made up the Foundations of Democracy Series, each representing one of the three branches of the US government. The 2007 edition focused on the Executive Branch and displayed a bold image of the American bald eagle.

Each 2007-W 1 oz Burnished American Platinum Eagle offered here includes a protective capsule, presentation box, and a Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint. Burnished coins go through a unique minting process: the platinum blanks are tumbled with a polishing medium to achieve a soft, matte finish before being struck under high pressure to bring out the details.

The obverse of the 2007-W Burnished Platinum Eagle shows a detailed image of the Statue of Liberty’s face. Designed by US Mint Engraver John Mercanti, this portrait was the standard obverse design for the Platinum Eagle from 1997 to 2017.

On the reverse of the coin, you’ll see a front-facing American bald eagle with the national shield placed in front. This design stands for the Executive Branch of the US government and captures the strength and symbolism of the nation’s leadership.
