First released in 1997, this series featured new reverse designs every year through 2017, and new obverse designs each year through 2025. Between 1998 and 2002, the United States Mint released the Vistas of Liberty designs for the Proof Platinum Eagle Series. Each year’s artwork showcased the American bald eagle flying over a different landscape from across the country. In 1999, the design highlighted the swamplands of the American Southeast.

Every 1999 Proof American Platinum Eagle 4-Coin Set comes with individual protective capsules for each coin. All four coins are housed together in a presentation box. The set includes 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz platinum coins, all struck in .9995 pure platinum with face values backed by the United States.

The obverse of the 1999 Proof American Platinum Eagles displays a portrait of Lady Liberty. This design features the face of Liberty taken from the Statue of Liberty and was created in 1997 by John Mercanti, who served as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

On the reverse side of each coin in this set, you’ll find an American bald eagle soaring above southern swamplands, with an alligator resting below in the water. This artwork was created by Al Maletsky for the US Mint and is one of four different reverse designs he produced between 1999 and 2003.
