These 50 Utah Goldback Gold Notes are packaged in protective plastic currency sleeves. The 2026 release features an updated design for the 50 Goldback as part of a full refresh of the original Utah Goldback Series. Every original denomination, including the 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 Goldback, received new artwork. The series also expanded with the addition of 1/4, 1/2, and 2 Goldback notes.

On the obverse of the 50 Utah Goldback Gold Note is Liberty as she drives the ceremonial golden spike that marked the completion of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad. The Golden Spike ceremony took place at Promontory Summit, Utah, on May 10, 1869, where the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads were joined together. The event became a defining moment in American history, with the telegraphed message “Done” spreading the news across the country and marking the successful completion of the railroad. The reverse of the 50 Utah Goldback features a mirrored version of the obverse design.

Utah was the meeting point for the eastbound Central Pacific Railroad and the westbound Union Pacific Railroad, making the territory central to the completion of the project. Finishing the railroad greatly reduced cross-country travel times, encouraged trade and settlement throughout the West, and strengthened connections between regions of the growing United States.
