Prairie dogs are small, ground-dwelling rodents native to the grasslands of North America. Common across the Great Plains, they live in large social groups and build underground tunnel systems known as “towns.” These towns can stretch for acres and include hundreds—or even thousands—of prairie dogs living in family units called coteries.
