Goldbacks arrive in the American Southwest with the launch of the Arizona Goldback Series. Each denominated note in this series nods to Arizona’s past—from Spanish and Mexican roots to eventual statehood in the United States. Right now, 25 Arizona Goldback Gold Notes are available from BullionMax.
Note Highlights:
Each 25 Arizona Goldback Gold Note ships in its own protective currency sleeve. The 25-denomination artwork focuses on the mystery of the Lost Dutchman Mine in the Superstition Mountains, one of the state’s most striking natural areas.
East of Phoenix, the Superstition Mountains rise sharply from the desert into a rugged volcanic landscape of cliffs, narrow canyons, and wind-shaped rock. For centuries, these peaks have inspired respect and caution. The Apache held the range as both sacred and hazardous, while Spanish explorers and later American prospectors were drawn by stories of rich gold hidden among the maze-like ravines.
On the 25 Arizona Goldback Gold Note, the female allegory of Tenacity is shown searching the Lost Dutchman Mine. That mine is tied to one of America’s longest-running treasure tales, linked to German immigrant Jacob Waltz—often misnamed “the Dutchman.” Waltz reportedly discovered a rich vein in the Superstition Mountains during the 1870s, but when he died in 1891, he left only vague directions. Since then, generations of searchers have tried to follow scattered clues, hand-drawn maps, and secondhand accounts through the challenging terrain.
