The year 2026 represents the 40th anniversary of the American Gold Eagle bullion series. The United States Mint introduced American Eagle gold coins in 1986, offering investors four different weights, each struck in 22-karat gold. This 22-karat blend is a bit different from many other bullion coins, using 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver for added durability. The reverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Eagle features the current bald eagle portrait. Created in 2020 by Jennie Norris, this updated design shows the eagle’s head in left-profile relief, with sharp detail that gives the image a clean, modern look.
