The United States Mint marks two big milestones for its leading bullion programs in 2026. The American Eagle series turns 40, and the American Gold Buffalo reaches its 20th anniversary. First released in 2006, the American Gold Buffalo remains the only 24-karat gold coin the Mint strikes every year. Right now, 2026 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins in certified condition are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2026 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin offered here comes in pristine condition and is sealed inside a protective plastic slab. Coins graded MS70 display full, original mint luster and show no visible marks or flaws under normal viewing. Early Release coins are those that reached the grading facility for certification within 30 days of the coin’s initial release by the mint.
The 1 oz American Gold Buffalo debuted in 2006 as the United States Mint’s first 24-karat (.9999 fine) gold bullion coin, offering a different option from the 22-karat Gold Eagle series. Approved through the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005, the Gold Buffalo was introduced in part to give U.S. collectors and investors a domestic choice that could stand alongside other well-known 24-karat gold coins, including the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf.
On the obverse of 2026 American Gold Buffalo Coins is a striking depiction of an indigenous figure. Shown in right-profile, the portrait features braided hair with a feather woven in for detail. Sculptor James Earle Fraser originally created this design in 1913 for the Buffalo Nickel, and it remains one of the most recognizable classic portraits used on American coinage.
The reverse of 2026 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coins presents an American bison. Also crafted by Fraser for the 1913 Buffalo Nickel, this design shows the powerful animal standing on a small mound of earth. Fraser reportedly drew inspiration from Black Diamond, a bison housed at the Central Park Zoo in New York during the early 1900s.
